This short podcast covers my wishes for eComStation 2.0 now that we have the GA version which are:

Win32 application support using a built in virtualisation engine (possibly the QT4 version of Virtualbox/2),

a new up to date Java version

a version of Flash 10 that works with the GA rather that claiming the code is not registered (this is a bug added in the GA code that was not in the RTM code).

While on the subject of Web Video, I point out one video site (http://www.dailymotion.com), that is beta testing an option to switch the video it streams to you from Flash to HTML5. Given Apple’s refusal to support Flash on their mobile devices, I think we will start to see more sites switching to or giving the option of, video in HTML5 format - which has to be good news for eCS and OS/2 as we already have HTML5 support built into both the Firefox and SeaMonkey browsers.

By the way, don’t think we have had a recording fault, the bad audio is caused by a bout of Flu I am suffering, not faulty hardware or software.

Hi and thanks to those who have posted encouraging comments. I have to admit, I am not as diligent with regularity of updates as I would like. When I started this podcast, I had great plans as one does and many of them are still what I want to do, it’s a matter of having the time to do it.

I want to get away from my simple commenting on current status of eComStation software and enjoyed my first interview with Joachim of Mensys while I was at Warpstock Europe last year.

From day one I had planned to have the ability to include multiple people in the podcast discussing relevant points, however the technology to do that using phone lines and mixers is “clunky” to say the least and while I have all the components I have been unable to get it sorted so that audio levels are the same, there’s limited interference type noise etc. etc. I have now found a website that may be able to give me what I want and the key point is that they have a web (flash) based voice client, so hopefully I’ll be able to set this all up to work using eComStation systems and not have to revert to using Windows. Given that the greatest problem we have on eComStation and OS/2 is that many applications are not available to us, I always seek to find a way to execute an action using an application that is available on eCS / OS/2 or using an external hardware device. This podcast is being recorded using a simple digital voice recorder. I load the WAV file into my eCS system and then run Audacity under ODIN to convert it to an MP3 and then upload it to podbean via Firefox.

I also have ideas in the video area - not using flash as I did to webcast last years Warpstock Europe but rather to use an external digital video camera and then convert its file into OGG-Theora format and load it to a website either for download or display through HTML5 code using Firefox which from version 3.5 onwards (including the eCS version) can play such videos.

As I said lots to do, but limited time to do it. it’s great to get comments back on my podcasts - you can either post these as some have at www.podbean.com/ecomstationaustralia or send me an e-mail to podcasts at durrant dot ws.
